IM12 9'0'' LW6 4 pc Fast action

This recently developed rod is built on an IM12 46T very high modulus blank and is the brainchild of a well-known South Korean rod designer. Using a Japanese blank and Korean components, Mr Kim created a powerhouse which, with its fast action, strength and super-slim blank, appeals to the more experienced fly-fisher. It delivers fast line speeds and stable, tight loops, making it ideal for long-range wet or dry fly-fishing, with patterns from streamers to large air-resistant dries. It has met with particular approval in North America, both for river and stillwater fishing. It features:

- Matt brown non-flash stealth finish with red whippings.
- Titanium finish snake guides. - Two stripping guides.
- AAA cork full Wells handle with compressed cork sections at the ends for protection.
- Short fighting butt with compressed cork at the end for protection.
- Scratch-resistant anodised gunsmoke finish CNC machine-cut aluminium reel seat with two locking rings.
- Alignment dots.
- Attractive red 100% fast-drying cotton rod bag and robust green Cordura tube with McGREGOR FLY logo and plastic window for easy recognition.

It balances perfectly with either of our 5/7 trout reels.

Replacement sections may be purchased in the event of any accidents.

Six-weight McGregor Rod with a 5/7 McGregor Reel
Review by Pat O’Brien, Calgary
I just recently returned from a 6-day fishing trip to Ascension Bay, Mexico, with 5 other guys from my hometown, Calgary. (November 23 - December 5, 2013). I was asked to try out two McGregor Fly Fishing outfits and note my thoughts about how they performed.

Six-weight McGregor Rod with a 5/7 McGregor Reel

I used a 7-weight line on this outfit and found it really responsive and light and I was amazed at how well it handled right off the bat. Again, this rod felt like a medium fast-action rod. One of the guides said it felt like a Sage rod the way it handled. It loaded so easily; the line just shot out of the eyes and turned over so smoothly. The guides were impressed by my back casts – it was the rod guys! I felt like I could have cast with it all day with no effort. The above sentiments were also expressed by my fishing buddy who was experiencing his first salt-water fly fishing adventure.

I would highly recommend to my friends and fellow fishermen to seriously try out and compare the McGregor Rods and Reels with other manufacturers before making a purchase. I know they would be pleasantly surprised by the performance of the McGregor tackle. (Posted on 1/17/14)

Review by A passionate Pro
My thoughts: This rod is a cannon. It wants to be worked and is very stiff and quick but light in the hand. The rod really doesn't load until a fair bit of line is through the guides but once you have the rod going it wants more. It cries out for an aggressive casting stroke. It really excels at one back cast and shooting with long lengths of line out of the guides. I found the handle a little thick for my liking and I would probably have to sand it down to make it comfortable. Aesthetically, the rod looked well finished and was generally attractive. My friend, who is one of the finest casters that I know, had very similar thoughts about the rod as me. He thought it really had to be worked to get the rod going. He is an aggressive caster and he was able to easily dump the entire fly line with only a few back casts. (Posted on 10/13/13)
